250th Anniversary of the Battle of Lexington

Today is the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lexington which left 8 patriots dead and 10 wounded on Lexington Green.

Following that horrific bloodshed, pastors throughout the region rallied the men of their flocks to fight the Regulars on their retreat to Boston, inflicting 324 casualties on the retreating British troops. The Americans lost 94.

The next year, in his 1775 Election Sermon, Dr. Samuel Langdon, President of Harvard College, expressed the sentiments of the American people in describing ‘the murder at Lexington and Concord … as enforcing the necessity of repentance and the laying aside of every sin.
